Most disc brake systems are hydraulically controlled rather than mechanically operated, because riders can use less brake force to meet the high-pressure fluid displacement required by brake calipers. The brake disc is made of cast iron or stainless steel. At present, stainless steel is the preferred material for modern motorcycles. The advantages of cast iron motorcycle brake disc are low cost and better heat dissipation, but the disadvantages are also significant: they are easy to rust and break.
