Most buyers ask about back gauge accuracy. The number that actually decides whether you like the machine is blade clearance — and almost nobody asks about it before they buy. Clearance is a percentage of thickness. Roughly 5 to 8 percent for mild steel, tighter for stainless, wider for aluminum. Too tight and the blade rubs, the load climbs, the cut edge work hardens. Too loose and the sheet isn't sheared at all, it's torn, and you get a burr with a rolled edge that has to be ground off. On a hydraulic shearing machine this is set with a handwheel and a scale at each end of the beam, then checked with a feeler gauge before a run. Once the stops are locked, vibration won't move them. Capacity on this one: 2500mm wide, 6mm mild steel. Stainless cuts at roughly 70 percent of that thickness; asking for full rating in 304 overloads the hydraulics and shortens blade life. What you get off the blade on 6mm mild is a clean edge with a small burr underneath that a file takes off in one pass.…
